Hugh is the foremost Education Facilities Planner in Western Canada. Over the past 27 years, Hugh has developed an encompassing strategic planning and facilities operations career, spanning the provinces of Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia.
His main areas of expertise include:
- facilities planning,
- city planning,
- demographics,
- project and educational program planning and management,
- feasibility studies,
- capital planning,
- long range facilities plans,
- project identification reports,
- project definition reports, and
- technical assistance.
Hugh is a past president of the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI) and enjoys active membership in several associations, including:
- Canadian Institute of Planners,
- Planning Institute of British Columbia, and
- International Facility Management Association.
He is also a faculty member of the San Diego State University National Center for the Twenty-First Century Schoolhouse CEFPI/SDSU Educational Facility Planning Certificate Program and developed the curriculum for the Educational Facility Implementation course in the program.
In addition to a Bachelor of Arts degree in geography from Concordia University, Hugh has a Cartographic Technician Certificate from the Algonquin College of Applied Arts & Technology and a Master of Environmental Design in urban and regional planning from the University of Calgary. His master’s degree thesis was on the Adaptive Reuse of Surplus School Space.
